Job Opportunity - Rescue Centre Assistant
For over 20 years, Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) has been living our mission to end cat overpopulation and homelessness and you can be part of that! We’re looking for a Rescue Centre Assistant to join our team of enthusiastic, compassionate staff and volunteers. This is a temporary position working 35-40 hours per week onsite in East Vancouver.

At VOKRA, we rescue, heal, and then place cats - first in our network of foster homes, then in carefully matched, loving, forever homes. We are a passionate, volunteer-driven charity with extensive cat care experience. We believe that no kill is the only responsible approach to rescue, that Trap-Neuter-Return works. Who You Are
We are seeking an individual who enjoys working with both people and animals, possesses excellent communication skills, and has a strong ability to multitask. Your responsibilities will include providing daily care for all cats and kittens in our facility, as well as helping to maintain the Rescue Centre in a clean, sanitary, safe, and efficient manner.
Ideal candidates will have a strong work ethic, be energetic and outgoing, and have a friendly personality. You will be part of a team environment, working closely with our volunteers and communicating daily with our fosters, volunteers, and the public in an effective, courteous, and non-judgmental manner.
The successful candidate must be available to work 10-6pm (including weekdays/weekends and statutory holidays as necessary) to accommodate the Centre’s 7-day a week scheduling.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Rescue Centre with day-to-day operations, ensuring all volunteers understand and work to support VOKRA's mission, values and operating procedures.
Assist in maintaining the Rescue Centre. in a clean, sanitary, safe and efficient manner.
Help staff to coordinate the flow of cats in and out of the facility in collaboration with external teams.
Responsible for prepping for Spays and Neuters: booking appointments, arranging drivers, preparing cat and paperwork, as well as updating the medical files in our database upon the return from the vet.
Support the staff and volunteer medical team with high quality, preventive and basic medical care to our cats and kittens.
Assist with record keeping to ensure the database is up to date.
Other tasks within the Centre may be required on an as-needed basis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Vet assistant experience is an asset.
Experience working in a veterinary or animal rescue setting is an asset and working with scared or hard to manage cats is an asset.
Commitment to supporting VOKRA’s philosophy, policies, programs, and protocols.
Sound knowledge of cat care, health, behaviour, and well-being.
Positive attitude, team player, attention to detail, adaptable, motivated self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision.
Must possess excellent verbal, written and organizational skills.
Demonstrate excellent telephone and customer service skills.
Excellent computer skills to efficiently manage the responsibilities and functions of the position.
Position can be physically demanding, and includes heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling.
