Happy Tails: Mish & Bix and Eamonn & Iram

Bix & Mish

In this month’s Happy Tails, we’re sharing the story of Mish and Bix, two kitties with very different starts in life. Mish was rescued from an industrial site and was initially very timid. Bix, on the other hand, was born in foster care and is a happy-go-lucky kitten. Here adopter Eamonn tells us how he and partner Iram came to adopt Mish and Bix.

MishMish (“Mister Mishes”, “Mish”) is 3 years old and Biscuit (“Bix”, “Bicky) is 8 months old.

How Mish met Eamonn & Iram

We adopted Mish in August 2021 and didn’t actually see him before we got him. We FaceTimed his foster family and saw some recordings of him. We decided to adopt him because we felt he’d settle into a level of interaction with us that we’d all be comfortable with, since Iram and I both work and he didn’t seem like a needy cat who would be stressed being alone all day.

How Bix met Eamonn & Iram

We adopted Bix because, as a calico, she stood out amongst her orange siblings. We also wanted a female kitten because we felt Mish wouldn’t feel threatened by her. As we and the foster were having lots of trouble telling her litter apart both in terms of identity and sex, we knew a calico was most likely female. Also, she was always napping so we figured she’d be a relaxed and chill kitten, which we felt would mesh well with Mish’s timid personality. We found out when we got her she's a little HellBeast with a ton of energy!

How Mish met Bix

When we first brought Bix home in February 2022, Mish was very cautious. He slowly crept out of his carrier and kept very low to the ground, found a corner and sat in it, peering around. Bix wanted to explore her room and then she wanted OUT. She wanted to explore the house and would get mad when we closed her in her room.

A Day in the Life of Mish & Bix

There’s now a few more steps in the daily routine: wake up (or be woken up by Bix pouncing about and licking us), feed the kitties. When I come home for lunch, they greet me outside the bedroom or in the kitchen and I put out lunch. After work, a similar greeting and then dinner. Maybe some cuddling on the couch after dinner, then litter boxes and bed. They’ll get settled on a corner of the bed, or in the closet, or somewhere else.

Mish will come right up to the edge of the couch and peer over at me intently. Then his pupils will dilate and he’ll hop up with a “brrr~rr!” And settle in for a cuddle.

Bix will get the devil in her and tear around the house. She loves Mish, but she loves to pounce on him too: she’ll wait until his back is turned or he’s focused on something else and then sneak up on him and pounce on him. Bix also likes watching TV with us.

What Mish and Bix love the most

Mish: silvervine sticks and a stick underneath a blanket: drives him nuts!

Bix: Churru treat and her springs. She’ll fetch them, bat them around on the hardwood, she loves them.

Why Adopt?

We cat sat for a friend who had adopted the sweetest Russian blue from VOKRA and spoke very highly of the VOKRA team. This being our first cats, we appreciated how involved VOKRA was with the adoption process.
