Sponsor A Cat
At VOKRA we believe all cats deserve to have a safe and happy life, regardless of their challenges.
Some cats in our care have health or behavioural issues making them unsuitable for adoption. As a no-kill organization, an unadoptable or sick cat will stay in our care, either in a foster home or at our Operations Centre, for as as long as it lives. We will never euthanize a cat unless it is suffering.
While our long-term care cats require close monitoring and daily training, we’re confident they have a loving future ahead of them, if not with a foster or forever family, with the devotion of all our volunteers. At VOKRA, kitties will always have a home until their last days.
Of course, ensuring these cats get everything they need takes money and resources. We rely on people like you to help us deliver the best possible care for our 40+ long-term residents.
If you'd like to chip in and help you can donate to our long-term care pool fund, or sponsor one of our long-term residents today!

VALANTINA
Help Valantina Heal: Become Her Sponsor Today
On July 7, 2024, Valantina was found struggling to survive under a woodpile in East Vancouver with her litter of kittens. Tragically, one had already passed. Malnourished and exhausted, she had been doing everything she could to keep her babies safe.
When Valantina arrived at VOKRA, she was in one of the worst conditions we’ve ever seen. Her fur was matted and greasy, her body covered in painful lesions, and she had three infected wounds on her breasts. Severe ear mites had left her ears in such bad shape that they had to be soaked for days before treatment. At just 2.76 kg, she was critically underweight.
We immediately rushed Valantina to a 24-hour emergency vet, where she received IV fluids, blood tests, pain medication, and infection treatment. After days of intensive care, she returned to VOKRA, where board member Shelley took her in as a foster. Safe and warm at last, Valantina finally experienced comfort—watching birds from the window, knowing she was cared for.
However, her medical journey was far from over. A skin scraping confirmed a severe case of Demodex mites, which had caused her painful lesions. Multiple treatments failed, requiring repeated visits to the West Coast dermatology clinic. She also underwent an ultrasound due to suspected internal issues—thankfully, the results were normal.
Valantina’s medical expenses have been overwhelming, already totalling $2,400, with more costs ahead. But at VOKRA, we believe every cat deserves the care they need, no matter the cost. That’s why we’re searching for a sponsor to help support Valantina’s ongoing recovery.
By sponsoring Valantina—whether through a one-time donation or monthly support—you’ll be giving her the second chance she fought so hard for. As with all of our sponsored cats, 100% of donations go directly toward her medical and care costs. If funds raised exceed her needs, they will go toward helping other cats in urgent situations.
Can you help Valantina heal? Donate today and be part of her journey to a healthy, happy future.

port
Port and her sister Moody were rescued from a home where there were too many cats. As a result they were unsocialized, extremely shy and scared. They have come a long way since being in foster care, however Port has a cancerous lesion in her mouth so she’s been placed in long-term care.
