Volunteer of the Month - February 2021
At VOKRA we’re one big happy family! This Family Day we’re celebrating all our volunteers – with a special shout out to our Volunteer of the Month, Helen Lupton.
Helen’s a long-time cat care volunteer and her peers describe her as reliable, forthright, proactive in solving problems and willing to put forward her thoughts to make the team run smoothly. Here Helen tells us about volunteering with VOKRA:
I thoroughly enjoy my cat care stint at VOKRA. It’s rewarding, fun and never a dull moment. Sometimes I think I need the inmates more than they need me to be honest!
Back in the day, I fostered when VOKRA’s operations was run out of Karen Duncan’s home in Kitsilano. I’ve fostered young, old and everything in between. I ended up adopting an older boy after fostering him, but he decided he didn’t like other kitties in the house. So, I changed direction and when VOKRA’s Operations Centre opened I signed up for cat care and the rest is history.
One of my funniest memories is the time (co-founder) Maria was doing her personal laundry at Ops and ended up finding her own bed linen had been cut up and was being used for the kitties! The look on her face was priceless and still makes me laugh to this day.
THANK YOU Helen for all your years of service and the time and effort you put in at our Operations Centre! We very much appreciate your support and dedication!
As a volunteer-driven non-profit, we clearly couldn’t do what we do without our extremely dedicated and hardworking team of volunteers – our VOKRA family. Thank you to each and every one of you!
