Call-Out for Foster Coordinators!

VOKRA’s expanding our team of foster coordinators! We are looking for cat lovers like you, who are ready to put their excellent communication and organization skills towards helping kitties get ready for adoption and find their forever homes.

Unlike other rescue organizations, VOKRA doesn’t run a shelter. Instead, cats are placed in foster homes where they can experience normal home life with a loving caregiver who prepares them for adoption. This foster program is the heart of VOKRA.

Foster coordinators work with foster homes to match fosters with kitties, manage and monitor the kitty’s progress until they’re ready for adoption. Foster coordinators develop strong relationships with their foster homes, regularly checking in and providing advice and support to their foster. This is a very rewarding role as each successful adoption is a cause for celebration and is the direct result of collaboration between the foster and their foster coordinator.

The time investment for foster coordinators varies from 6 to 20 hours a week and depends on the number of foster homes they take on, the number of cats in each home and the time of year. Beyond the minimum of five foster homes, foster coordinators can choose to manage as many foster homes as they’re comfortable with and have time to properly support.

All foster coordinators are provided with specialized support from our medical and behavioural teams and general support from the other foster coordinators and other teams at VOKRA. While working with so many VOKRA kitties, you will learn a lot about cat care, as well as behavioural and medical issues. The end goal is to make sure kitties get put up for adoption as soon as they are ready.

Ashra, who’s been a foster coordinator for almost six years, and has recently taken over as the team lead, shares more about what makes the role so valuable to her:

“Being a foster coordinator is hard work, but it’s incredibly rewarding! You get to work with many foster homes and support a lot of kitties at once. You get to help coach fosters through nursing kitties back to health or coaxing semi-feral kitties into their first purrs and belly rubs. You get to learn so much about cat health and behaviour and apply your knowledge every day when responding to foster’s questions and concerns. The work is also flexible and fits in with my full-time job and my other hobbies and activities. To date, I’ve worked with more than 100 fosters to get almost 450 kitties adopted and I’m looking forward to many more!”

Without the foster coordinators, VOKRA’s foster program wouldn’t be able to work!
