We're Walking for Renault
Walk for the Kitties is back at the beach this May! Join us and help make a difference for kitties like Renault.
Renault’s a handsome young man who’s curious and affectionate. He’s interested in everything going on around him and is always up to play and explore. While running around with his siblings his foster mom noticed he would often get winded and he’d also occasionally wheeze in his sleep.
After a visit to the vet and several x-rays, Renault was diagnosed with a condition called pectus excavatum, commonly known as “funnel chest”. Basically, he was born with a defect which caused his chest bone and ribs to grow abnormally. Renault was referred to a specialist who determined it would be best for him to have surgery to fix the problem. Although as a kitten he wasn’t having a difficult time of it, there was a worry the condition would worsen with age and the older he got the harder it would be to intervene.
Earlier this month, Renault had his surgery and is recovering in his foster home. He has to wear a splint on his chest for the next couple of months, but he doesn’t seem to mind it that much.
The only downside to Renault’s surgery is the cost – between his many vet visits, x-rays, surgery and post op care the total is now up to more than $5,000!
Veterinary bills account for more than 50% of our annual budget. Want to help out?
